About Us

Clay County Communications is an IRS  501-3-C  non profit West Virginia corporation. Our purpose is simple, provide a community based communications platform for the county of Clay.  Before WYAP-LP, our 342 square miles of rural mountainous terrain was  without a local source of information. For us, existing TV and radio stations in the surrounding counties provided little news of Clay County. Emergencies came and went without our residents knowing of the dangers.
Our Board of Directors come from all walks of life. Our middle school, high school and senior citizen staff operate the station 24/7 365 days a year. Our membership is equally diverse and from all regions of the country.   Our dream has always been to give the citizenry a voice for change. It's now working!
In April 2003, we began internet broadcasting around the world.  On July 23 2003, the FCC granted our construction permit.  We received our transmitter and ALS decoder in July 2004 and wired it all up. The final FCC Form (319) was filed Wednesday Sept 8 2004 which allowed us to practice broadcast. The big day came May 11 2005 when the FCC granted WYAP-LP, 101.7 FM a full license to broadcast.
There's a place for you at YAP radio!
